What is Vitamin K?
Vitamin K refers to a group of essential vitamins that can be divided into K1 (phylloquinone) and K2 (menaquionone). Vitamin K first became known in 1929 by Danish researchers through studies on cholesterol synthesis.
What functions does vitamin K have in the human body?
In the first place, it plays a very important role in the blood clotting process. However, studies have shown that its functions are much more diverse. Furthermore, vitamin K is important for the disposal of calcium, which is an important factor in cardiovascular health and bone health. Deficiency can result in calcium loss, and hence the bone density is reduced. Studies have shown that vitamin K2 helps maintain bone density.
Vitamin K2 also takes part in the carboxylation of the matrix Gla protein (MGP) in the bloodstream. This is the most effective known inhibitor of artery calcification. It can, thereby, significantly reduce the risks of vascular damage. The Rotterdam study has shown that a high intake of vitamin K2 has a strong influence on cardiovascular health.
What is special about our Vitamin K2 capsules?
Our raw material MenaQ-7 is naturally obtained by bacteria through fermentation. This process is a natural source with the highest content of vitamin K2, in the form of long-chain menaquinone-7.
Many supplements with vitamin K1 and synthetic vitamin K2 (as menaquinone-4) on the market are almost completely absorbed within a maximum of 2 hours. Menachinon-4 is thus no longer detectable in the blood stream after about 8 hours. On the contrary, Vitamin K2 as a long-chain menaquinone-7 is getting accumulated in the bloodstream up to 72 hours!
Can you overdose on vitamin K?
Vitamin K does not cause excessive blood clots because the proteins responsible for blood clots have only a limited absorption capacity for the substance. Once it reaches a saturation level, vitamin K can no longer affect blood clotting.
